Ack. We watched Peter Pan this morning, a movie I haven’t seen in years. I have no real need to see it again anytime soon. I said as much, and mentioned (offhand, to my parents) that in many ways, society is much better than it is now.
Ah, but you see, people might curse now, and THAT means that things are worse. Frankly, I see cursing as a minor issue where parenting is concerned. Dehumanizing other races? Minimizing the roles of girls and women? Treating people with no respect? To me, THOSE are moral issues. I couldn’t *fucking* care less about cursing.
I’ll update on the Japan trip in a bit, after I finally upload my pictures. I flew in Thursday night, and I’m finally only today starting to feel human again.

My boy just got a copy of Peter Pan last week, and he’s already watched it four times. (Luckily, I haven’t had to watch it with him.) My mom and I caught him singing “what makes a red man red?” or something along those lines. “I can’t believe that Disney still gets away with selling this,” said my mom.
He says he likes the flying part. I can’t blame him; I spent much of my own childhood wishing for pixie dust.
I get sick of the whole “things are so terrible these days” crap. There have always been alcoholics and drug abusers. There has always been racism. There have always been murderers, rapists, etc. Today, we are so media saturated that we hear about even the most trivial news events (what did Paris Hilton eat after getting out of jail?) via sound bite, e-headline, teletext, newspaper, ad nauseum. We hear so much and over analyze everything to death so it seems like there is more crime and “immorality” *gag*!
I believe thing are actually much better today than in the “bad old days.”
I wish we had known that you were back in town. We had a family get together last night (Sunday) and watched Sam’s movie he made for his final. It was Jane, William, Amy, Emily A., Shelby, Emily C. (Shelby’s five year old), Ainsley (Shelby’s two year old), Alexis (Shelby’s stepdaughter), Jimmy (Shelby’s stepson), his friend Max, Danny (Shelby’s husband), Sam, and uncle Jimmy. I think Maya would have had a ton of fun with the Emilys and Ainsley. Maybe next time. Also, I don’t know if you know this but uncle Jimmy is moving to Albuquerque in August of this year. I guess part of it too is that I hadn’t checked your blog over the weekend, I’m not sure why, but anyways. I hope you had a ton of fun in Japan and I can’t wait to see pictures.
