it is what it is

Welcome to reality. If you lived here, you’d be home now.

Yes, we did.

At this point, I can finally say…WE’RE GOING TO DC! It felt weird to write about it ahead of time, but my prescient husband decided that using frequent flyer miles to buy tickets from Denver to DC might not be a bad idea. We have hotel reservations only a couple blocks from the White House and tickets to the Illinois Inaugural Gala. For our anniversary this year, Mike’s getting fitted for a tux, and I’m shopping for a ball gown, wheeee! (Oh, and shoes. Must have fabulous shoes.) Next step: we’re sending a letter requesting tickets to see the inauguration ceremony itself.

While the trip to DC will be exciting, more so will be watching the Constitution and its protections of the American people be put back together.

I’ve been thinking about going to DC for the inauguration, too… been thinking about it since 11:00:10pm on Tuesday night.

Howd’ja get tickets to the ball? Email me!

I forgot to mention…my very conservative Republican parents are being quite gracious and watching the kids so Mike and I can go alone. How awesome of them is that? My family rocks.

Crap. That reminds me that I need to buy a breast pump and start building a 3-day supply!

After a childhood of immersion in my family's religious tradition, I hit college and my first true experience with the question, "why?" Why did I believe as I did? If I thought about it, I had no idea. So, I spent the next ten years not thinking about it.

.

Once I hit 30, I began asking myself that question all over again. A few years later, I woke one day to realize that I simply didn't believe. For many reasons, I am a much happier (and more emotionally healthy) person having let go of god. There are still days that I wish god did exist. It would be a relief to relinquish responsibility to a greater power.

.

But, even better, I can see life for what it is, and work with reality. That's more powerful than any god could hope to be.
