it is what it is

Welcome to reality. If you lived here, you’d be home now.

Internet, I need your help.

December18

I have two assignments due by midnight tonight. So, naturally, I’ve been looking at shoes for my stunning teal dress I found for the inaugural ball Mike and I will hit in January.

Here’s what’s currently sitting in my Zappos shopping cart. I’d be willing to buy two (and send back the loser), but four is a bit much. Anyone want to help narrow it down? The prices are close enough to not be a deciding factor. The dress is a shimmery dark teal with beading in teal, clear, and an iridescent blend of golds/bronzy tones/pinks/blues (hard to describe). My jewelry is made from similarly iridescent beads. When I have a chance, I’ll shot some photos.

For now, here are the contenders. Pick your top two and leave a comment (please!!!)

LOVE #2, sassy, sophisticated & beatiful. However, I am laughing a bit at all of them– girl that’s a whole lot of walking/standing in some very high heels!!!! However to truly opine, I do need to see the dress. Good luck!

I have to say I like #3 the best…. they look like something that could work with jeans and a nice top for a night out, too. Multipurpose is the way to go. Of course, I agree with Alison…. seeing the dress might change my opinion.

Ok… to help even it out. My very first reaction was that I LOVE #1

#1 is my favorite. SO sexy. Jamie’s right that #3 would work well with jeans, so I think they’re too casual for an inaugural ball. Pair 4 is adorable, but they look a bit too spring-like, with the little flowers, and they look like they’d be really uncomfortable. #2 looks like the most comfortable option.

I’d order 1 and 2 and try them with the dress.

Summer, I was totally going to IM you if you didn’t respond on this one. I mean, I HAVE to get the opinion of the Internet shoe queen. Your picks are in line with my instincts, too. Number 3 appeals to me less and less the more I look at it, and 4…from the front has too much of a gladiator look. (I was hoping to play off the crystals in my dress.)

Damn, I wish you guys still lived in DC!

I like 2 & 3 the best – but saw that you already ordered! So – I’ll say keep #2.

I love #1! They’re so sexy and seem like they would go great with your dress as you described it.

After a childhood of immersion in my family's religious tradition, I hit college and my first true experience with the question, "why?" Why did I believe as I did? If I thought about it, I had no idea. So, I spent the next ten years not thinking about it.

Once I hit 30, I began asking myself that question all over again. A few years later, I woke one day to realize that I simply didn't believe. For many reasons, I am a much happier (and more emotionally healthy) person having let go of god. There are still days that I wish god did exist. It would be a relief to relinquish responsibility to a greater power.

But, even better, I can see life for what it is, and work with reality. That's more powerful than any god could hope to be.
