Things I Love

Over the past month or so, I’ve realized that I need to put the things that I love and enjoy into a format where I can study it all to see if a pattern emerges. Then, maybe — just maybe — I could find a Career 2.0 ™ that I’ll find both fulfilling and effortless. Yeah, I know. I don’t want much, huh?

I should probably just add things to this list over time. Whether I will or won’t do that remains to be seen (I’ve adjusted to my short attenti–look, a bird!–on span.)

damask patterns
colors and variations on colors
textiles and texture
psychology and the study of the mind
sociology and the study of people
antropology and the study of cultures as a whole
do-gooderism
matching people together with other people/ideas that I know will appeal to them
seeing patterns in otherwise disparate ideas
being real (it’s way too much work to create/maintain facades)
design – home
design – graphic
neurology
neuroimmunology
food & cooking
writing, writing, writing — personal, research, journalistic, you name it
research (see above!)
natural sciences — from a layperson’s perspective, at least
social justice causes & equality
environmental protection
developmental psychology
psychographics and personal/group preferences
perception and mis-perception – human tendencies, fooling ourselves, others using it purposefully
reading – fiction, non-fiction, whatever strikes my fancy. I may or may not finish any given book I pick up, but I pick up quite a few. Usually have numerous nonfiction going at any time, but only one fiction.

It’s a weird feeling to discover a new “old friend” on facebook, just to experience a visceral memory of feelings from during the time that we were friends. As much fun as I supposedly had in my 20s, I sure am getting a rush of anxiety, longing-to-fit-in, wanting to measure up, and fear of rejection.

There are times that I look back at the person I was during my last few years in Houston, and I’m deeply embarrassed for her.

Just got an email from Whole Foods (commonly known as “Whole Paycheck”): Budget-Friendly Recipes for the New Year

Does that mean shopping for these will only cost 1/2 a paycheck? Or maybe 3/4?

Ack. We watched Peter Pan this morning, a movie I haven’t seen in years. I have no real need to see it again anytime soon. I said as much, and mentioned (offhand, to my parents) that in many ways, society is much better than it is now.

Ah, but you see, people might curse now, and THAT means that things are worse. Frankly, I see cursing as a minor issue where parenting is concerned. Dehumanizing other races? Minimizing the roles of girls and women? Treating people with no respect? To me, THOSE are moral issues. I couldn’t *fucking* care less about cursing.

I’ll update on the Japan trip in a bit, after I finally upload my pictures. I flew in Thursday night, and I’m finally only today starting to feel human again.

Go, team!

It’s kind of cool to sit here with the windows open, and occasionally hear cheers from a baseball field about 1/2 mile away. If Maya weren’t sleeping, I think I’d go watch, just for fun.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Parenting Beyond Belief, and it’s been available for a bit, but Hemant Mehta’s I Sold My Soul on eBay only released today, so today I ordered both, plus a bit of fluff. What can I say? I (heart) Clinton & Stacy.

Hooray for my accidental purchase of Amazon Prime — these will arrive Thursday!

An Inconvenient Video

Grrrrrr.

I just came home from renting An Inconvenient Truth, so I could FINALLY watch it. I know, it’s sad to be so late to the game, but hey, I have a 2-year-old.

I opened the box, thinking that I’m cool with watching a documentary with Maya over dinner. They. Didn’t. Remove. The. Security. Device.

Grumble. I have a pizza arriving in minutes, so I guess we’ll see this one another time. Instead, I may still watch Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World (or whatever it’s called)…but that likely will need to wait until after Maya’s bedtime.

I’ve imported posts from Oh, for the love of God… to here — so there’s a little disarray that I expect to continue for a time as I remove/rename categories and whatnot.

Thanks to Fred for the link to the WordPress-to-Wordpress import/export plugin. Once I deleted the *thousands* of akismet comment spam, my file size was small enough to import old posts, categories, and comments quickly! Woo-hoo!
